Done In A Day ( D.I.A.D. ): The goal
of D.I.A.D is to provide short-term or immediate volunteer service within the
community on projects not administered by JLCU. These projects are chosen to
meet the vision, mission, and goals of our strategic plan. The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana
hopes that the D.I.A.D. projects will help our organization better understand
the needs of the community by helping meet their needs. In addition, Junior
League wants to be a visible leader in collaborating with other organizations
that serve the women and children in our community. The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana
(JLCU) is now accepting applications from area non-profit organizations for
projects that can be "done in a day". These are short-term
projects that are to be completed between September 1 - December 31, 2008.
Organizations with projects that emphasize senior citizens, women's issues,
family welfare, children, or people with disabilities, or development of the
arts are encouraged to apply. Some examples of past projects include:
organizing a carnival for Carle Hospice's Camp Healing Heart; providing
volunteer workers at the Orpheum Children's Museum’s Kid's Building Fair,
decorating a visitors' room at the Swann Special Care Center; designing and
planting a small butterfly garden at the Urban League Day Care; providing
volunteers to transport cancer patients to and from treatments for the
American Cancer Society. We also organize Done In A Meeting (
D.I.A.M. ) collections. A D.I.A.M gives our membership an opportunity
to donate items to organizations in need. Examples of past collections
include: collecting emergency clothing for the Champaign-Urbana public
school, mittens and hats for Head Start, personal hygiene items for
Coalition for Community Kids in Care, and used cell phones on behalf of
Special Olympics. *Please be advised that JLCU cannot
assist in fundraising for outside organizations. We will accept and complete many
projects this year. If your organization would like an application or more
information, please write or email the D.I.A.D Chair, Sarah Bohannen, at JLCU Headquarters
or call 356-5880. Or download our DIAD Assistance Request Application Form and send the completed form to JLCU Headquarters
by August 15, 2008 for Fall/Winter 2008 opportunities: JLCU Members interested in signing up for a
work shift, click here. You will be prompted for
